Miguel Manara. Une convive (étude), 1945 Gouache and pencil on paper 35,5 x 27 cm
In 1945, Strawinsky created the set and the costumes for the play Miguel Mañara by the Polish writer O. V. de Lubicz-Milosz. 213 sket-ches are related to this production, including costumes, sets and various models. The show was put on by Compa-gnons de Romandie at Geneva’s Grand Théâtre, with a Catholic repertoire. The action takes place in Seville. For his costume designs Strawinsky was no doubt inspired by the works of Velazquez and Greco.
